Health and Human Rights Award

The ICN Health and Human Rights Award was created in 2000 by the ICN Board of Directors to call attention to ICN’s values and to commemorate nursing’s fundamental dedication to human rights. The award aims at recognising significant humanitarian contributions and achievements in the domain of health and human rights. It is ICN’s only award given to someone who is not a nurse.

• 2005: Stephen Lewis United Nations’ Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa
• 2009: No award presented
• 2013: Mary Robinson, UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes region of Africa and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
• 2017: Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation
• 2021: Lord Nigel Crisp
