The International Council of Nurses (ICN) is delighted to announce the launch of the application process to participate in the 2024 Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI™). Interested nurses in senior or executive level positions from across the world can click here to apply. The 2024 GNLI will take place from June 2024 to June 2025 and will include a residential module in Geneva, Switzerland, from 25 October to 1 November 2024.
The innovative and acclaimed GNLI is a strategic policy leadership programme, focused on strengthening nurses’ political and policy understanding and influence, within a global framework for sustainable development.
Framed within the context of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery, 2021-2025 (GSDNM), the GNLI 2024 programme focuses on topics such as health disparities, gender equity and universal health care. The 2024 programme will also feature a site visit at WHO Headquarters and opportunities for collaboration with WHO Regional Offices.
In an online interview, Dr Amelia Tuipulotu, Chief Nursing Officer of the World Health Organization, an alumna of the GNLI, shared her positive experiences of the programme:
“The [GNLI] is one of the best, or should I say best ever, leadership programme that I attended. [It] equipped me with knowledge and skills on how to influence policy, how to better communicate and negotiate, how to look at the bigger picture of the world with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The programme is very important because nursing leaders of tomorrow will face increasing challenge and complex situations. We need a stronger voice at the policy table. We need to build nursing leaders of tomorrow who are visionary, who have leadership capabilities to be able to influence decision making and ensure sustainable and predictable financing for nurses and midwives around the world.”
Nurses from around the world will be selected as GNLI 2024 scholars through a competitive process. Who should apply? Nurse and midwife leaders working in:
