The International Council of Nurses has launched a new leadership programme for experienced nurses who are responding to the current crisis in Ukraine, brought about by the invasion and ongoing war with Russia.
The Nurse Leadership for Crisis Response and Recovery (NLCRR) programme is not just a course: it is a catalyst for coalition-building across Ukraine’s health care system. Its aims are to mobilize resources, foster collaboration among key stakeholders and facilitate the exchange of expertise.
By creating space for healing from past challenges and strengthening professional networks, the NLCRR programme lays the foundation for a more resilient system, empowering healthcare leaders to enhance the recovery phase and drive lasting transformation.
ICN is currently inviting applications from mid-career and senior nurses in Ukraine who currently work in leadership roles in hospitals, emergency services, primary care, education or policy development.
ICN CEO Howard Catton said the programme reflects ICN’s long history of developing nursing leadership and responding to demands within the profession.
“When nurses lead, communities heal. This initiative supports Ukrainian nurses to lead with confidence through crisis and beyond. ICN, along with our member National Nurses’ Association members, believe deeply in the power of nurse leadership, and their collective support is what makes programmes like this possible."
The 25 participants who will join the six-months long NLCRR programme will take part in three modules:
The NLCRR programme is fully funded by ICN’s #NursesforPeace humanitarian fund, which means there are no financial costs for participants.
