As a candidate for the ICN Board of Directors, I am deeply committed to advancing the ICN's mission to represent nursing worldwide, promote the wellbeing of nurses, and advocate for health to be intrinsically part of all policies. The challenges we face in today’s rapidly changing world require strong, visionary leadership to ensure that the global community not only recognizes the vital role of nurses but also supports and invests in nursing, to lead and deliver health for all.
My vision for the future of the ICN aligns closely with its mission and strategic goals. I will focus on ensuring that nurses are recognized as key decision-makers and influencers in all aspects of health policy and economic care delivery.
I believe that ICN must continue to act toward global collaboration in tackling health disparities. I recognize ICN as a pivotal organization in driving global health equity through partnerships with international health organizations and governments. If elected, I will ensure that ICN remains a respected and influential voice in the global health arena. This includes advocating for the implementation of the Charter for Change, which will maximize investments in the nursing workforce, education, leadership, and well-being.
I will engage in every initiative that promote fair pay, gender equity, mental health, and respect for nurses. I also support the development of modernized nursing regulations that enable advanced practice and nurse-led models of care. I will advocate for the use of technology and telehealth to bridge gaps in healthcare access, especially in underserved regions.
Because strengthening National Nursing Associations (NNAs) is crucial to growing our global membership and advancing the profession at the national level, I will work to develop a Membership Strategy that supports both the growth and retention of NNAs within the ICN. Furthermore, I will promote leadership capacity-building initiatives that empower NNAs to tackle key health system challenges in their regions. I also wish we can explore the potential for mentorship programs that connect experienced nurses with newer entrants to the profession, fostering a supportive and collaborative nursing community. Additionally, I will support collaborations with regulatory groups to share best practices and promote contemporary policies rooted in social justice, that strengthen the profession.
To sustain and expand the ICN’s impact, it is essential to diversify our revenue streams. I will engage in the development of a robust fundraising strategy and explore new affiliations that complement our existing membership. I will also look for the development of online courses and certification programs for nurses, which can generate additional revenue while providing valuable educational resources. All of these will ensure that the ICN can continue to offer high-quality conferences, congresses, and educational events that contribute to the professional growth of nurses globally.
If elected, I will be totally committed to collaboration, innovation, and strategic leadership, based on my recent past presidency of the Canadian Nurse Association (CNA) and the experience I gathered, in leading the governance renewal and critical financial challenges that CNA went through during the last 2 years and beyond.
